Election Campaigns
✍️ with Florian Foos
In this chapter we explore the political science of election campaigns. We begin with the puzzle that originally motivated the study of campaigns: whether campaigns matter for explaining electoral behaviour. We then outline findings on the specific effects that campaigns have on turnout, vote choice, and mobilising activists. After this, we explore the implications that advances in technology have had in the development of data-driven campaigning. We conclude the chapter with a discussion of key methodological approaches and ethical considerations when studying campaigns.
